Top leaders are under mounting pressure to pass the US-funded Millennium Challenge
Corporation (MCC) compact.
Top leaders in the government, therefore, have taken the initiative and led the process
forward.
The Nepali Congress, the ruling party, is in favor of endorsing the MCC.
Similarly, the pressure on CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal alias Prachanda and CPN (Unified Socialist) Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal to pass the MCC is mounting.
The MCC agreement chapter began in 2068 BS, when Dr. Baburam Bhattarai was Prime
Minister, but when it came to the stage of approval, Prachanda and Dr. Bhattarai, who had
before been in the same party, now leading separate parties.
Hence, both leaders are under moral pressure to approve the MCC project they have put
forward.
