Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that the flood-affectedMelamchi Bazaar settlement will be managed in a safe place. On the occasion, Prime Minister Oli inspected the flood-affected areas including Melamchi Municipality and HelambuVillage Municipality and sought a long-term solution to the natural calamity of Melamchi Bazaar. He informed about the plan to relocate the market to a safer place and cultivate vegetables and fruits there.
He also called on all political parties and organizations to rise above political beliefs and provide humanitarian assistance to the flood victims. Prime Minister Oli said, “It is not appropriate to do politics in time of calamity. At this time, everyone should cooperate together, actively unite and find a solution to the problem.”
He called for the distribution of relief to the flood-affected people through one-door system as the relief distributed by various organizations and individuals could not reach the target community. He said that there was more propaganda on social media than relief distribution and requested not to spread propaganda of different religions in the name of relief distribution.
Prime Minister Oli also expressed his commitment to expedite the reconstruction of roads, bridges and other infrastructure in the flood affected Melamchi. Prime Minister Oli also stressed on the need to protect the suspension bridge by Chandra Shamsher in Melamchi Bazaar.
He said that arrangements would be made to bring water in the Kathmandu Valley at least this year by rebuilding the Melamchi Drinking Water Project. He said that the damage was lessened as the tunnel of the project was being tested.
Prime Minister Oli’s wife Radhika Shakya, Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport BasantaKumar Nemwang and former Minister Sher BahadurTamang were also present on the occasion.
