The company that provided COVID-19 test kits to Spain was not licensed to sell the products, the Chinese Embassy to Spain said on its official Twitter account in response to claims that these test kits are “substandard.”

The test kids were produced by the Shenzhen Bioeasy Biotechnology based in South China’s Guangdong Province.

The purchase of these test kits has nothing to do with the important purchase that Spain has made based on the recent list of companies officially recommended by the Chinese government for the sale of medical equipment to deal with COVID-19, the embassy wrote on its Twitter account in Spanish.

The market supervision administration in Shenzhen, Guangdong, has started an investigation of company and will release related information timely, the administration announced in a notice released Friday morning.

The Spanish government has announced plans to return 9,000 “quick result” test kits to China as they were deemed “substandard,” El Pais reported.

We regret the confusing interpretations that have been made in some media of our statements regarding the COVID-19 tests that have been revealed to be flawed, the embassy said in a tweet.

Shenzhen Bioeasy Biotechnology has not replied to the Global Times’ request for comment as of press time.
