Federalism turning expensive for Nepal

Federalism seems to
be only burden for the
nation. It has added
administrative cost as the
lawmakers and ministers
of the State need to be
paid when they are
lacking business in the
assemblies.
Moreover, the increasing
current expenditure in
the budget shows that
the government has to
allocate a big portion
of the budget to pay the
politicians and employees
accommodated in the
State Assemblies. Because
of this, Finance Minister
Dr Yuba Raj Khatiwada
in the new budget set only
26 per cent for the capital
expenditure.
Many experts have been
raising voice against
the relevancy of the
provinces. When there are
local levels to carry out
development activities,
the State government
has actually nothing to
perform. Hence, they
have become only burden
for the cash-crunched
country like Nepal. When
the biggest chunk of the
revenue goes to maintain
federalism, development
cannot be possible.
