Kathmandu : The Embassy of Pakistan in Kathmandu organized a talk program on Wednesday to mark Kashmir Solidarity Day, focusing on “Regional Peace and Stability in South Asia: Resolving the Kashmir Issue as a Prerequisite.” The event drew journalists, writers, human rights activists and supporters of the Kashmiri cause.
Messages from Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar were read out during the program. President Zardari reiterated Pakistan’s support for the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination under United Nations Security Council resolutions, stating that lasting peace in South Asia depends on a just settlement of the dispute. Prime Minister Sharif reaffirmed Islamabad’s moral, diplomatic and political backing, while criticizing India’s August 2019 actions for worsening the situation in the region.
Foreign Minister Dar highlighted alleged human rights violations, including detentions and restrictions on political and media freedoms, urging international implementation of UN resolutions.
Pakistan’s Ambassador Abrar H. Hashmi stressed that peace in South Asia requires addressing the Kashmir issue and rejected the validity of legislative measures taken under Indian administration. Participants called for renewed international engagement and dialogue, describing resolution of the dispute as essential for regional stability.
