Greater Nepal Nationalist Front Demands Action Over Rimpoche Visit

Kathmandu : The Greater Nepal Nationalist Front (GNNF) has issued a strongly worded press release calling on the government to immediately halt what it described as “anti-China activities” following the arrival of religious leader Rimpoche at Tribhuvan International Airport on January 29.

In its statement, the group claimed that Rimpoche, whom it labeled a supporter of Tibetan independence, was invited to Nepal for a ten-day preaching program by an organization known as the “Dolpo Society.” The Front alleged that the lack of action by the Kathmandu District Administration Office even a week after the visit suggested official backing for the event.

Citing Nepal’s stated commitment to the One-China policy, the GNNF argued that permitting the visit undermined that position and could strain relations with Beijing. It warned that continued inaction might create mistrust between the two neighbors and potentially harm Nepal–China ties, which it said were closely linked to Nepal’s sovereignty and long-term national interests.

The organization urged the government to cancel the registration of the Dolpo Society, take strict legal measures against its chairman, Tashi Phoncho Gurung, and order Rimpoche to leave the country immediately. The statement was signed by GNNF chairman Phanindra Nepal.
