Election Commission Seeks Explanations from Balen, Harka, and Mahesh

Kathmandu : The Election Commission has sought explanations from five candidates and two organizations on charges of violating the election code of conduct.

According to the Commission’s Code of Conduct Monitoring Division, five candidates—including Balen Shah of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) from Jhapa constituency No. 5—have been asked to clarify their actions.

The Commission stated that Balen Shah commented on a social-media post made by another candidate from the same constituency and CPN-UML chair KP Oli, using the word “murderer,” which was deemed contrary to the code of conduct, prompting the request for an explanation.

Similarly, Nicholas Bhusal, a House of Representatives candidate from Rupandehi constituency No. 2, has also been asked for clarification after being accused of promoting shoes associated with the “Gen-Z movement” as an election symbol.

From Sunsari constituency No. 1, Labor Culture Party candidate Harka Sampang was found to have violated the code of conduct by allegedly using children in campaign activities and involving them in promotions by making them wear T-shirts.

In Bhaktapur constituency No. 2, UML candidate Mahesh Basnet has been asked to explain comments in which he allegedly referred to RSP candidate Balen Shah as a “brat.” In the same constituency, candidate Januka Pathak (Shobha Pathak) has also been asked for an explanation for allegedly making hateful remarks against another candidate and using words such as “murderer” and “rapist.”
