Suggestions to the Prime Minister

Suggestions to the Prime Minister

Prof. Dr. Yubaraj Sangroula

No matter what anyone says, there should be no doubt about Prime Minister Sushila Karki’s dedication to the nation. However, those who hold power are often surrounded by double-faced people, just like monkeys roaming around a cornfield. I have a few suggestions for the Prime Minister:

  1. Many weapons have been looted, and the morale of the police is low. They currently lack the motivation to ensure security during the upcoming elections. The stolen weapons might be used during the elections. Therefore, it would be wise to hold a roundtable discussion—including agitating youths, public intellectuals, entrepreneurs, human rights activists, and representatives of political parties—and reschedule the elections to Jestha (May–June) to ensure free and fair polls.

  1. Fear has gripped entrepreneurs and industrialists. Hundreds of hotels have been burned down, and privately invested schools have been torched. Criminals have begun looting openly on the streets. Crimes under the pretext of “donations” and extortion are on the rise. The Prime Minister should take steps to re-engage these individuals in productive sectors like manufacturing, services, and business.

  1. Movements exist for reform and transformation. Such movements should, like those of 1990 (2046 B.S.), inspire citizens with enthusiasm. At present, clouds of despair and fear hover over the nation. It is necessary to build national unity and safeguard national integrity.

  1. Open societies and political organizations connected with the people are what bring stability to the state. The country can never move forward through secretive politics that excludes certain groups. We are followers of the Buddha’s principles of compassion and peace. Equity alone can create such a situation. Therefore, the nation must move not toward worthlessness but toward the path of values. Impunity cannot be accepted, but authoritarianism must also be rejected. Hence, it is essential to restore burned-down courts, government attorney offices, and police stations and bring the justice system back on track.

These are some urgent matters that must be addressed immediately. Ordinary citizens must help create an environment for the emergence of a new politics that truly reflects the spirit of change. The upcoming leadership must come from the youth. However, much must be learned and understood. There is no alternative to taking this path. Let conspiracies in the name of power and political alternatives not prevail once again. The Prime Minister now has the opportunity to create new history — may this opportunity be fulfilled.
