Urdu Poetry Event Deepens Nepal-Pakistan Cultural Ties

Kathmandu : The Embassy of Pakistan in Kathmandu organized an international Urdu poetry symposium titled “Aalmi Mushaira: Urdu, Shaairi Ki Zubaan” in collaboration with Sahitya Academy, Nepal. Held at Hotel Aloft on July 22, 2025, the event celebrated Urdu poetry as a cultural bridge between Nepal and Pakistan.

 

Honourable MPs Siraj Ahmed Farooqi (CPN-UML) and Kalpana Miya (CPN-MC) attended as special guests, alongside politicians, writers, social activists, and officials from the Pakistan Embassy. The event highlighted strong literary connections and cultural diplomacy between the two nations.

 

Renowned Urdu poets such as Dr. Zafar Eleeg, Dr. Saqib Harooni, Dr. Afzal Manglori, Furqan Faizi, Musharaf Ali Khan, Zahid Azad Jhanda Nagri, Ghalib Dareeb, Altaf Farifta, and Sapna Ahsaas enthralled the audience with their poetic recitations.

 

Nepali filmmaker and writer Prakash Sayami praised the universality and emotional depth of Urdu poetry. Guests commended Pakistan’s efforts in promoting culture and the Embassy’s role in fostering artistic exchange.

 

Ambassador H.E. Abrar H. Hashmi expressed gratitude to Sahitya Academy Nepal and participating poets. He emphasized strengthening cooperation between literary institutions of Nepal and Pakistan, particularly in promoting Urdu and Nepali languages.

Embassy of Pakistan, Kathmandu organized a literary event – poetry symposium, titled “Aalmi Mushaira; Urdu, Shaairi Ki Zubaan” عالمی مشاعرہ، اردو، شاعری کی زبان at Hotel Aloft, Kathmandu on 22 July 2025 in collaboration with Sahitya Academy, Nepal.

 

Special Guests included Honourable Mr. Siraj Ahmed Farooqi, MP, CPN-UML and Honourable Ms. Kalpana Miya, MP, CPN-MC. The event was attended by Urdu enthusiasts which included politicians, intellectuals, social activists as well as officials of Pakistan Embassy. The aim of the event was to highlight literary linkages between Pakistan and Nepal and strengthen friendly relations, particularly in cultural domain.

 

Famous Urdu poets, including Dr. Zafar Eleeg, Dr. Saqib Harooni (President Sahitya Academy, Nepal), Dr. Afzal Manglori, Mr. Furqan Faizi, Mr. Musharaf Ali Khan, Mr. Zahid Azad Jhanda Nagri, Mr. Ghalib Dareeb, Mr. Altaf Farifta and Ms. Sapna Ahsaas read out their poetic narrations and won accolades.

 

The guests appreciated the efforts of Government of Pakistan in promoting culture and art and it’s showcasing in Nepal. They lauded Embassy of Pakistan for bringing together Urdu poets and promotion of Urdu language. Mr. Prakash Sayami, acclaimed Nepali film director and writer, in his remarks, highlighted the universality and versatility of Urdu language, particularly the depth of Urdu poetry.

 

H.E. Mr. Abrar H. Hashmi, Ambassador of Pakistan to Nepal, thanked Sahitya Academy, Nepal as well as individual poets for their contributions in Urdu language. He also highlighted the importance of deepening cooperation between the literary institutions of Nepal and Pakistan, particularly exchanging literature and promotion of languages, such as Urdu and Nepali.
