Pakistan Embassy Hosts Annual Essay and Speech Competitions to Foster Youth Engagement and Nepal-Pakistan Ties

The Pakistan Embassy in Kathmandu held its 12th Annual Essay and 8th Annual Speech Competitions with wide participation from Nepali students. Winners received medals, souvenirs, and cash prizes. Dr. Vijay Kumar Datta and Ambassador Abrar H Hashmi praised the event for promoting critical thinking and strengthening Nepal-Pakistan ties. Topics included AI and education’s future, engaging students from 40 institutions.

Today, Pakistan Embassy, Kathmandu organized 12th Annual Ambassador of Pakistan Essay Writing Competition and 8th Annual Ambassador of Pakistan Speech Competition. Dr. Vijay Kumar Datta, Founding Chief Commissioner, Madheshi Commission of Nepal was the Chief Guest.

 

This year, the topic of Essay Competition was “Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Humanity”. Mr. Pratic Pokharel from Vishwa Nektan Secondary School secured First Position, Mr. Aayush Shah from the same school secured Second Position, and Mr. Sanjok Magar from St. Joseph English Academy secured Third Position. The winners received gold, silver and bronze medals along with souvenirs and cash prizes, respectively. The next ten students were also awarded special cash prizes.

 

In Speech Competition, Higher Secondary and tertiary students debated on the topic “Books or Bytes: the Future of Learning”. Ms. Prapti Lamsal from Institute of Forestry, Pokhara, Campus Tribhuvan University secured First Position, Ms. Reet Kafle from Shivapuri College, Kathmandu secured Second Position, and Mr. Ritesh Deo from St. Xavier School Jawlakhel secured Third Position. The winners were awarded medals along with souvenirs and cash prizes, respectively. The next twelve students also received special prizes. A healthy number of Nepalese students from forty higher secondary schools and universities participated in these competitions. The competitions were held in phased manner over last two weeks and it culminated in today’s event.

 

Speaking at the occasion, Dr. Vijay Kumar Datta appreciated Pakistan for its continued support including in education, health and community development. He expressed hope that Pakistan’s support would go a long way in reminding the youth of the two countries of shared values and as responsible global citizens.

 

Ambassador of Pakistan to Nepal Abrar H Hashmi in his concluding remarks appreciated the students for their critical thinking on important issues. The Ambassador stated that promoting critical thinking on emerging challenges and opportunities would equip them to benefit from such exercises and could serve as a binding bridge between the two countries.

 

Both competitions have been regularly held for the last 8 and 12 years, respectively and are popular among the Nepalese youth and attract the brightest students from all over the country.
